Carol Service at Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral Stag Hill, Guildford, Surrey

Dear all

Please attached details of a carol concert at Guildford Cathedral on Wednesday 11th December in support of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance.

We do hope you will join us for this pre-Christmas festive event in support of a very worthy cause.

Whilst Guildford Cathedral has a very plain exterior, internally it is stunningly beautiful and well worth a visit for its architecture alone.

For those who arrive early for a chat and some mulled wine, there should be ample parking. And if you are a blue badge holder, let us know and we will organise a priority space for you. In the unlikely event that you arrive late, there is overflow parking on the adjacent university campus. I attach a map that shows the location of the parking and the footpath back to the cathedral.

Again, we do hope you will be joining us for what should be a memorable evening of carols and festive joy.

We look forward to your confirmation.

Best regards

Mark

Committee Nominations and AGM Motions Form

The Statement of Financial Activities for the 12 months ending on 31st December 2024 will be circulated as soon as this has been prepared.

IMPORTANT – Please note that Surrey Scouts has recently been subject to a full external audit. The TSCC is constituted as a unit within Surrey Scouts. One of the requirements coming out of this audit is that the financial year of all units within Surrey Scouts must be harmonised. As a consequence, our financial year-end must be moved to 31st March. In order to achieve this alignment, our current financial year will be extended to 31st March 2025. At our AGM on 8th February we will report on the twelve month period ending 31st December. Subsequent to 31st March we will circulate a Statement of Financial Activities for the full 15 months ending on that date.

We do hope you will join us for our AGM when, as usual, there will also be the opportunity to chat and catch up with other members over a cup of tea or coffee and some light refreshments.

As ever, we will be relying on all members to bring along a contribution to the nibbles. Committee members will bring sandwiches and other members are requested to bring cakes and / or savouries. All contributions gratefully appreciated but if possible home-made would be fantastic. Tea and coffee will be supplied.

Your Committee looks forward to seeing you on Saturday 8th February.

Wishing you and your family a joyous Christmas and a happy, healthy 2025.

Thames Cruise

Catherine Wheel Hotel 7-15 Hart Street, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Dear All

Please do not ignore this email just because you have no boat!

This year’s TSCC Thames Cruise will be a little different – and with something for everyone.

Here’s the plan:

Sunday 15h June – The cruise will start at Windsor.

To kick-off the festivities there will be a group Sunday lunch at the Boatman, a riverside gastropub in Windsor. All members are invited to join us for a relaxed and convivial get-together. Cost for Sunday roast £21.50pp including service. For non-boaters, the station car park is right next to the Boatman and, if this is full, there are two further, less popular, parking areas just the other side of the station.

Monday 16th June

On the Monday we will cruise to the ‘Town Moorings’ in Cookham. In the late afternoon we will have a group barbeque on the large and pleasant grassy area beside the river. If you are a non-boater, you can get your car very close to the moorings to drop off your passengers, picnic chairs etc. Access is via Berries Road, which is off the High Street next to the Crown Inn. There is ample free parking on the High Street.

All members are invited to join us. Cost £10.50pp.

Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th June

On the Wednesday and Thursday nights we will be mooring near to the Rowing Museum in Henley on Thames.

For non-boaters, overnight accommodation is available at the Catherine Wheel Hotel in Henley. On the Wednesday night, rooms cost just over £100 for two persons but availability is limited!

Why not come and join us for the Wednesday evening and the Thursday? Everyone is invited.

Here’s the plan:

Wednesday evening – We will meet for an evening meal at Pokhara Delight, a highly rated Nepalese restaurant. Cost for shared starters, main course with rice, and nan: £22.50pp including service.

Thursday morning – Our annual fun and games will take place late morning on the meadows by the boats. We will provide a light lunch with sandwiches, cake, cream scones, tea / coffee. Cost £7.50pp.

Thursday afternoon – Non-boaters can explore Henley, chill out by the river, take a river cruise with Hobbs of Henley – or even hire a dayboat by the hour!

Thursday evening – We will meet for our finale group dinner at Al Forno, an excellent independent Italian restaurant. It will be an early evening event so those not staying overnight can get home at a reasonable time. If you are a non-boater and decide to stay the Thursday night, you are invited back to the boats for a finale nightcap. Cost for starter, pizza / pasta main, plus dessert: £33.00pp including service. (Meat / fish main course alternatives are available for a supplement).

We do hope you will join us for all or part of this annual flagship cruising event.

Whether you will be boating, or simply joining in the fun, it would be very helpful if you could give us an indication of your likely plans as soon as possible so that we in turn can plan accordingly.

And if you are a non-boater and would like to stay at the Catherine Wheel, we suggest you book a room without delay. Rooms can be cancelled without charge up to the day before arrival.

We look forward to hearing from you and to another fantastic week afloat.

With best regards

Mark
